The Milwaukee Bucks continue to miss the 28 points per game they usually get from Giannis Antetokounmpo. Doc Rivers badly needs someone who can create his own shot, so the team decided to sign an unwanted free agent who was waived by his original team before the trade deadline.

Cam Thomas is now a Buck after being picked up by the Wisconsin-based team. He was waived by the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the trade deadline.

The 24-year-old guard’s 2025–26 season has not been ideal, largely due to injuries that caused him to miss a number of games. He also fell out of coach Jordi Fernandez’s favor, as the team invested more in its rookies while Michael Porter Jr. took Thomas’ spot as the focal point of the offense.

Thomas averaged 22.5 points per game during the 2023–24 season and 24 points the year before. This season, he is averaging just 15.6 points, having played only 24 of the 51 games the Nets have played so far.
Cam Thomas on choosing the Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks have quietly operated under the radar in recent seasons when it comes to the trade market. The best example of this was their acquisition of Damian Lillard in 2023. The Portland Trail Blazers guard was heavily linked to the Miami Heat, but the Bucks swooped in and landed him.
The same appears to be the case with Thomas. According to the player, Milwaukee’s interest has been there for years, and he joined the team because he felt wanted.

“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they’ve been interested for years now,” Thomas said, according to NBA insider Marc Spears.
“So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition. I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody, and contribute as soon as possible.”
