The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached the Western Conference Finals in the past two seasons, and many believe that they can finally get over the hump once Anthony Edwards reaches his full potential.

After losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2025 playoffs, Edwards vowed to improve his game, and the three-time NBA All-Star has reportedly shown some progress under trainer Chris Hines.
“Chris told me that he worked on teaching him about the history of the game. ‘We know you can score, we know how great of an athlete you are,’” Dave McMenamin said about Edwards on NBA on ESPN. “‘But watch these clips of Kobe (Bryant). Watch these clips of Michael Jordan. See how they read the defense when they collapse on him late in the shot clock.’ We saw it pay off in the playoffs.”

“It’s been a constant process for him, though. He’s trying to add the playmaking piece to the offensive repertoire. If he gets that, I mean, the sky is the limit,” he added.
Minnesota Timberwolves News: Anthony Edwards draws bold MVP prediction from former NBA star
The NBA hasn’t had an American-born MVP winner since James Harden in 2018, and former Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins believes that Anthony Edwards will be the next guy to do it.

“That’s a bad boy. We can talk all we want about the Euro thing, but whenever he steps on the floor, you know he’s on the floor. It don’t matter who’s out there,” Cousins said about Edwards on the Straight Game podcast.
“I think he’s more so about getting the right talent around him. I think they got some good pieces. They got to find a really good PG put next to him. I’m a big Rob fan, that’s UK bro. When you play with guy like that, you got to put your game in the backseat. And I think young fella is through that stage of figuring out how to feature the star,” he added.
