Rashad McCants thinks Anthony Edwards needs more help if the Minnesota Timberwolves plan to get over the hump this upcoming season, especially after consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances.
To do this, according to McCants, the team needs to strengthen its backcourt production. The Minnesota Timberwolves have several young guards in their pipeline that McCants named who could help Edwards.
“They have some pieces that can get them there (NBA Finals). I think they may need more guard play outside of him,” McCants told ClutchPoints’ Lorenzo Reyna in an exclusive interview. “Maybe some Rob Dillingham action can help them surge a little bit more.”
“But the NBA is getting a lot more competitive with a lot more talent. Minnesota would have to get a couple other guys who can be more dangerous come playoff time rather than having them surge throughout the whole season and coming up short because you don’t have enough,” he emphasized.
Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly sign four-year veteran to strengthen backcourt
Right on cue, the Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly signed free agent Bones Hyland to fill the last open roster spot. However, the move may not be finalized until September, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Hyland finished the 2024-25 season on a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, appearing in four games. The 24-year-old guard played for the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite his limited opportunities last season, Hyland reportedly impressed the coaching staff with his microwave-like scoring ability and long-range shooting. The former 24th overall pick will fight for minutes alongside Donte DiVincenzo, Terrence Shannon Jr., Rob Dillingham, and Mike Conley.
