Minnesota Timberwolves: Fans React to Naz Reid’s Contract Update Regarding His Player Option

The Minnesota Timberwolves failed to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday and suffered their second elimination at the Western Conference finals. Last year, they were in the same situation when they lost in six games against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. After falling short, the Wolves have a few agendas to address heading into the offseason.

One of the issues they have to deal with is the contract situation of Naz Reid. The 2024 Sixth Man of the Year has one year left in his three-year, $41.9 million contract, which is his $15 million player option. In the 2024-25 NBA season, Reid had the best season of his career. He appeared in 80 games, averaging 14.2 points, six rebounds and 2.3 assists. In the postseason, he had 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Reid is expected to opt out of his player option and could demand a new deal from the Wolves this summer.

“Randle holds a $30.9 million player option that he must exercise or decline by June 29. Reid has his own $15 million option that many around the league expect last season’s Sixth Man of the Year to decline,” Fischer reported.

Given how he played this season and the season before that, Reid could command a deal with a significant amount of money if he returns to the Wolves. He’s also open to the idea of becoming a player off the bench next season, if Minnesota re-signs him. However, he believes that he’s a starting-caliber player in the league.

“Yes, 100 percent. 100 percent. But sometimes, if you want to be in a winning position, sometimes you might have to sacrifice. I definitely view myself as a starter,” Reid said.

Nothing is sure about what’s next for Reid and the Minnesota Timberwolves. While he’s been an important part of their success, fans have varying opinions about his situation. Here are some of what the fans said.

“He’s about to ‘Dennis Schroder’ himself 💀” a fan said.

“OKC showed this dude isn’t worth $100M,” another fan commented.

“Naz Reid is not a missing piece to any contending team. He should take his $31 million,” one comment read.

“Naz has reached his ceiling in Minnesota, Better to let him leave IMO.”

“Will be interesting to see what Naz Reid’s market is, wouldn’t shock me if he resigns with Minny at around the same money he’s on now”

“I like him on the Pistons. He’d be a good fit with the Cavs if they move Allen. Naz would be a good floor spacer for Paolo and Franz in Orlando.”

“Randle is just a much better Naz Reid in my eyes”

“As he should. Reid is going to get paid.”
