Minnesota Timberwolves star Naz Reid paid tribute to his late sister, who recently fell victim to murder.
In a series of Instagram stories, Naz Reid shared rare photos of her in heartfelt and wholesome moments with his late sister, Toraya. The series of stories included childhood photos of the two together, and a screenshot of a heartfelt private message to Naz from Toraya.

Toraya Reid, 28, the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid, was found fatally shot outside the Paragon Apartment Complex on Saturday morning, according to Newsweek’s Jenna Sundel. Responding officers discovered her unresponsive in the roadway after reports of gunfire, prompting a Major Crime Unit investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Reports revealed that Shaquille Green, has been officially charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The prosecutor’s office said that Green was in a dating relationship with Reid. He was arrested around the area of the crime.
The news of Reid’s sister’s passing also sparked messages of support, particularly from his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns. The suspect for the case remains in custody, and further investigation is ongoing by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Naz Reid Gets Honest About Future Plans With Wolves
Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid has made clear that he intends to opt out of his player option for the 2025-26 season as he eyes a lucrative extension in Minnesota. Sources say the 25-year-old forward is targeting a deal in the neighborhood of $30 million annually, a figure the Timberwolves brass seems prepared to meet given Reid’s vital bench production and versatile inside scoring.

The reason for Reid’s contract renewal is based on a league-wide movement focused on roster depth that helped lead Minnesota back to the Western Conference Finals for a second consecutive season. Reid will turn his attention to the offseason and has identified consistency and leadership as his two areas of improvement.
“Probably just be a little more consistent in some categories. I think off the court, probably learn how to be a leader for the younger guys. I kinda did that this season, but I just lead by example as well,” Reid said when the Timberwolves got back to Minnesota after the Conference Finals.

During the 2024-2025 season, Naz Reid averaged 14.2 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He shot at 456.2% from the field, and 37.9% from beyond the arc.
