The 2024 NBA Draft was supposed to be a great highlight for everyone.
For the young men who worked day and night on their skills, being called by Adam Silver and shaking his hand on the stage is a fitting conclusion to a long journey that started when they were only children.
Meanwhile, fans are excited to see which players among this year’s rookie crop will immediately boost their team’s chances of winning the Larry O’Brien trophy. It can also be considered the debut of the next generation of superstars who will push the league forward.
The draft has been a source of positivity for fans throughout the years. These young players allow them to look past their team’s performances last season and prepare for when the NBA tips off again later in the year.
However, it seems like the NBA Draft experience has changed due to the presence of social media. Fans especially place the blame on two insiders for completely changing the Draft Day experience.
NBA Draft fans blame Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania for leaking picks before announcement
Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania are known insiders who have connections with every team in the league. People usually refresh their social media profiles when it comes to finding the latest trades, signings, releases, and other related activity.
While fans appreciate the service the two insiders provide, they express their frustration for the two spoiling which player the team will pick before Adam Silver gets to call the player to the stage.
The fans expressed their anger on social media, per The Spun’s Kameron Duncan:
“ngl i’m not gonna look at my phone during the draft, Woj and Shams ruin the excitement now,” said another fan.
“Staying off Twitter in-between draft picks so Woj & Shams can’t ruin it,” one fan added.
“Whats the point of watching the draft if Shams and Woj ruin the pick before its announced? One reason NBA aura is falling dramatically,” another fan said.
While both Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania are free to leak news as it’s their right, the league should look into creating regulations that will prevent the two from ruining the NBA Draft for everyone.
