Curry poured in 48 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter, but the Golden State Warriors still fell 136–131 to the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center on Sunday, extending a troubling pattern in which Curry’s scoring outbursts have not translated into wins.
Coach Steve Kerr acknowledged responsibility for the team’s struggles, citing poor transition defense, turnovers that led to 24 points for the opponent, and a 5–9 record in clutch situations as areas he must fix to reverse the slide.
“We gotta find a way to connect the game, that’s my job,” Kerr said during the post-game interview. “I’m not doing my job well this year. We have enough talent to be much better. I gotta find a way to help these guys.”
Kerr also said the staff needs to do a better job getting the ball to Jimmy Butler when Curry is off the floor and to tighten rotations and defensive engagement, while players have at times failed to execute otherwise sound game plans.
