Ahead of the NBA Cup finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, NBA fans couldn’t understand why some of the former NBA players can’t see the prestige behind the Cup.
On Monday’s episode off the Run It Back Show by FanDuel, three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams raised quite a debate on who’s the better big man between the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren, and the San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama.
“Chet has a ring already. If we’re talking about the NBA Cup, I don’t know if that qualifies as the moment,” said Williams.

NBA fans were quick to throw their thoughts on the debate and made valid points as well.
@SoA_President19 brought up a Golden State Warriors third stringer into the conversation and said, “James Wiseman also has a ring, does that make him better than Wemby?”

@WemVP also made an interesting take, saying, “I guess in this logic, Chet is a better player than Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, CP3, etc…”
However, @DripMuse_ looked farther from the debate and said, “Why do players and former players try to discredit the NBA cup so bad?? Just cuz Bron won it the first year.”
The Spurs edged out the Thunder on Saturday by merely two points, but the showdown between Chet and Wemby saw the Frenchman winning despite being on limited minutes. Wemby put up 22 points and 9 rebounds in 21 minutes of action, while Holmgren spent 30 minutes on the court and mustered 17 points and 7 rebounds.
“You gotta love Wemby”: NBA fans react to Victor Wembanyama’s classy move ahead of NBA Cup Finals
With the Spurs set to face the Knicks in Vegas, reports revealed that Victor Wembanyama and Spurs Sports & Entertainment purchased flights and hotel accommodations for the Jackals fan section.

Fans loved the gesture from Wembanyama, who has quickly built a strong connection with the San Antonio faithful.

@DJ_B_RADICAL pointed out how much impact they already made, saying, “I don’t know if you noticed the last game, but it was pretty much a home game. They were channing WeM.V.P on him freethrows.”
The Jackals, the Spurs’ high-energy supporter group inspired by European football culture, are expected to bring that same noise to the NBA Cup Finals — and if they do, Vegas might feel a lot more like San Antonio.
