NBA fans were left baffled after Jeff Teague declared Cade Cunningham his pick for MVP this season.
On Tuesday’s Club 520 Podcast, Teague apologized to Detroit Pistons fans but doubled down on his admiration for Cunningham.
“He’s a front-runner for the MVP,” Teague said. “Cuz his team, he has no other star. Everybody got legit stars on they team. He’s the only star. Nobody else on they team can be considered a star. He’s the only guaranteed bonafide star on they team. Jalen Williams, All-Defensive, All-NBA- Shai, Chet. LeBron, Luka Austin Reaves, everybody got considerations.”

Fans quickly mocked the take.

@PFBurner47 asked, “So when jokic was doing it without a second star why were y’all rooting for Shai and embiid.”
And @Savat120374 dragged Luka Doncic into the debate: “Bro so.. luka should have gotten it before he joined lakers? jeff are you mad?”
Still, Cunningham’s numbers speak loudly. Averaging 27.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 6.0 rebounds, he has led Detroit to a 21-5 record—the best in the East.
“Cade turned around a 5-21 Pistons team to a 21-5 #1 Seed”: NBA fans applaud Cade Cunningham’s efforts against the Boston Celtics
That case grew stronger Monday night against the Boston Celtics. Cunningham poured in 32 points with 10 assists and 4 rebounds, guiding the Pistons to a 112-105 win and their fourth straight victory. Fans celebrated the turnaround.

@DexWin_Sports highlighted the transformation: “In just a few seasons, Cade turned around a 5-21 Pistons team to a 21-5 #1 Seed.”
@PrinxeDJ praised his rise: “My dawg Cade Cunningham is too good—a top 10 player for a reason, and one of the biggest reasons why this Pistons team is so good. I just love to see Cade’s ascension. Cade is averaging 27pts, 6reb, and 9ast.”
And @toweypat kept it simple: “MVP!”
With Detroit now atop the Eastern Conference, Cunningham’s play has sparked legitimate title hopes. Whether Teague’s bold MVP claim holds up remains to be seen, but the Pistons’ resurgence has undeniably put their young star in the spotlight.
