NBA fans had a field day after Klay Thompson and Ja Morant got into it as the Mavericks–Grizzlies game wrapped up. Morant wasn’t even active because of a calf issue, but somehow he still ended up in the center of everything during Memphis’ 102–96 win.
As soon as the final horn sounded, the two started jawing. No shoves, but enough heat that both benches drifted over just in case. Morant kept the energy going even afterward. Cam Spencer was giving his postgame interview—he had 17 in the win—when Ja stepped in and said,

“Tell ’em who the best shooter in the house was, it wasn’t bro from Golden State.”
Thompson didn’t let that slide. When asked about Morant chirping from the sideline, he responded,
“Just running his mouth. He’s been running his mouth a long time. It’s funny you run your mouth when you’re on the bench. It’s kinda been the whole story of his career so far.”

Fans went straight to the comments to pile on.
One joked, “Ja probably told him Meg taste like Wheaties.”
Another said, “Klay roasted lil bro. Ja wishes that he even comes close to what Klay has accomplished in his career.”
A third wrote, “I see folks going at Klay, but he didn’t say anything that’s wrong here. If anything he was being generous to Ja. At some point Ja has to grow up.
And even though Dallas couldn’t pull out the win, Thompson still dropped 22 and kept the Mavs afloat long enough to make things interesting.
“These commentators be hating for anything”: NBA fans rip broadcast after Klay is called a fake tough guy
The dust-up with Morant wasn’t the end of it. Earlier in the night, Cooper Flagg got tripped by Santi Aldama, and Thompson stepped over to back up the rookie. Pretty normal act of sticking up for a teammate, but the Memphis commentators weren’t having it.

“Klay Thompson has never been an enforcer. You’re never going to be an enforcer in this league in any way, shape, or form,” one announcer said.
That comment didn’t sit well with viewers.
One said, “Giving him shit for having his teammates back. These commentators be hating for anything.”

Another commented, “Trash commentating.”
A third added, “I’m from TN and every grizzlies game I’ve ever watched I watch on mute. They’re awful.”
Thompson went 7-for-17 and buried six threes, but the Mavs still let it slip. Next up: a matchup with the Miami Heat on Monday away from home.
