NBA fans weren’t just cracking up with Mychal Thompson — plenty were laughing at the mix-up he stumbled into when a fan confused him for one of the biggest names in Lakers history.
Thompson posted a picture on X of himself posing with a fan during a Lakers game. The moment looked harmless enough until the fan confidently identified him as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. That slip had the comments rolling in almost instantly.

One joked, “At least she didn’t say Rupaul..”

Another tossed in, “At least she got ‘legend’ right.”
A third added, “You know what they say, all Lakers look alike.”
For anyone who wasn’t around for Showtime, Thompson earned his stripes. He was part of the 1987 and 1988 championship group with Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and the real Kareem — all under Pat Riley and all former No. 1 overall picks. Not exactly a forgettable résumé.
“NBA dads writing food reviews”: NBA fans flip the tone after Mychal praises Megan Thee Stallion’s Thanksgiving cooking
A few days before the whole Kareem confusion, Thompson had already gone viral for something a lot more wholesome. During a quick post-dinner moment, he talked about Megan Thee Stallion’s Thanksgiving spread and said it helped make it one of the best holidays he’s had. Because Megan is dating Klay Thompson, fans immediately ran with the idea that things might be getting serious.

One fan joked, “meg’s cooking got nba dads writing food reviews.”
Someone else added, “She got them locked in.”
Another person even predicted, “I’m calling it, she’s getting that ring by her birthday.”
In a post-dinner interview, Klay’s dad, Mychal Thompson said Meg Thee Stallion’s cooking made it one of the ‘best Thanksgiving’s he’s ever had’ 💯🔥

Klay and Megan haven’t exactly been low-key. They’ve been showing up together at events, posting online, and now spending Thanksgiving with the Thompson family. It’s got fans wondering if this is headed somewhere bigger — and whether Megan Thee Stallion might eventually end up with a Thompson ring of her own.
