NBA fans were buzzing online after Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones — the team’s No. 38 overall pick — was reportedly arrested following a short police chase in Indianapolis.
The Indiana State Police said the incident happened Monday when a trooper tried to pull Jones over on Interstate 65. The former Marquette star didn’t stop right away, which led to a quick pursuit that ended downtown.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the officer clocked Jones driving at 90 mph on Interstate 70 and attempted to initiate a stop. Instead, Jones merged onto I-65 and eventually halted on an exit ramp.
Jones told police he was late for practice and didn’t realize how fast he was going.
The news sparked an avalanche of reactions across social media, with fans throwing jokes and opinions left and right.
“Bro was on the wrong fast break.”
“Bro heard PACErs and thought he got drafted by Dominic Turrero.”
“You really just hate seeing a young man throw his life away like this.”
Kam Jones had been one of Marquette’s all-time greats, finishing second on the school’s scoring list and earning second-team All-American honors last season. Now, fans are hoping this off-court drama doesn’t cloud his rookie campaign in Indiana.
“The officer owes him and the Pacers an apology”: NBA fans show support for Kam Jones
Not everyone was ready to pile on the rookie. Some NBA fans came to his defense, saying the arrest was overblown and that Jones was simply rushing to make practice.

A fan account on X posted:
“So Kam was running late for work, speeding on the interstate near the north split (a Hoosier tradition I mind you), and didn’t pull over fast enough for the pursuing officer’s liking. Not the best look for sure but hardly the actions of a violent criminal.”

Others backed the take.
“Considering the location of the incident, this seems wildly blown out of proportion and I’d argue the officer/agency owes him and the Pacers an apology.”
“Troopers think you can just make a right turn to the shoulder. It’s not that easy. It takes a minute.”

“The whole thing has been blown out of proportion.”
