NBA Fans recently reacted to the news of Kevin Garnett finally getting his Minnesota Timberwolves jersey retired, years after the end of his basketball career. For some fans, so much time has passed that they thought this had already happened.
Over at social media platform X, NBA fans reacted to the reveals of ESPN insider Sham Charania that former Wolves star Kevin Garnett will finally have his jersey retired in Minnesota. For one fan, they almost forgot that Garnett has yet to receive the honor.

“Wait. Kevin Garnett’s jersey hasn’t been retired in MINNESOTA!???” the fan said.

One fan gave a brief explanation and highlighted how this development is a huge win for the Wolves and Wolves fans.
“KG had beef with the owner Glen Taylor and basically (justifiably) refused to deal with the Wolves until Glen was gone,” the fan said. “Glen’s gone, KG is back. W for the Wolves fans.”
Garnett has yet to have his Wovles jersey retired, primarily due to his long-running rift with Wovles’ primary owner Glen Taloy. This situation only changed when the Wovles changed ownership recently.
Garnett’s absence from the Timberwolves’ rafters was as much about relationships as it was about timing. The Hall of Famer and franchise icon fell into a prolonged dispute with then‑owner Glen Taylor, a split that left Garnett distanced from team events and decision‑making for years. That estrangement meant the customary gestures that accompany a jersey retirement never materialized while Taylor remained in control, leaving the organization and Garnett on different pages about how and when to honor his legacy.
The combination of ownership reluctance, public acrimony and the desire for a proper, celebratory event contributed to the delay, with team leadership historically unwilling or unable to bridge the divide and coordinate a retirement that satisfied both Garnett and the fan base.
NBA Fans Dive Into Nostalgia Over Kevin Garnett News
Over at X, NBA fans went into a nostalgia over the news of Kevin Garnett’s Wolves jersey finally getting retired, almost a decade following his retirement from the league. For one fan, it felt good to recall how Ganrett dominated during his time.

“Only player who is the all time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks for his franchise,” the fan said.

For one fan, the recognition is something that has been long overdue.
“This feels long overdue,” they said. “Kevin Garnett is Minnesota basketball, and it always felt wrong that his relationship with the franchise ended the way it did. Jersey retirement plus a real role in the organization finally closes that chapter the right way.”
With the regular season ongoing, NBA fans are on the lookout for franchise updates, as well as trade deadline news and rumors coming in.
