NBA fans once again got a reminder of how deep Klay Thompson’s respect runs for his longtime Splash Brother after he shut down recent comparisons involving Stephen Curry.
Following their 111–107 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday, Thompson was asked about rookie Reed Sheppard being labeled “Cocaine Curry,” a nickname that has circulated online and caught the attention of NBA fans.
“I think Reed is a great shooter. I don’t think anyone should ever be in the same sentence as Steph, though. That’s crazy,” Thompson said.
The comment immediately sparked reactions from NBA fans, who were split on how they interpreted Thompson’s response.
@mamba24kn twisted Klay’s words and said, “Cocaine is cool…just don’t bring up Curry.”

@idcstfumaynee added, “Klays saying this like he isn’t the greatest shooter ever himself.”
Meanwhile, @TheNik_15 questioned Thompson’s tone, saying, “Why does this guy always gotta get so pressed all the time?”

Sheppard’s nickname dates back to his college days at Kentucky, where his outside shooting earned attention from NBA fans long before he entered the league. On Saturday, however, the 2024 NBA Draft’s third overall pick struggled, failing to hit a single three-pointer in the matchup.
Thompson, despite being on the losing end, finished with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc, shooting 42 percent from three. It was one of the few positives NBA fans could point to for his team that night.
“Ain’t no way he’s letting him break up with her”: NBA fans react to Klay Thompson’s dad joining him and Megan Thee Stallion for dinner
Away from the court, NBA fans have also kept Thompson trending because of his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion.
Ever since Megan hosted Thanksgiving dinner, Thompson’s father, Mychal Thompson, has become part of the online conversation. In a video shared by Complex Sports, Mychal was seen having dinner with Klay and Megan while poking fun at the situation.

“You’re gonna be fat when y’all get married,” Mychal said.
NBA fans enjoyed the banter between the father and son.
@iTalkshitOG joked, “Yeah they getting married. She feeding Pops, ain’t no way in hell he’s letting him break up with her.”
@thatchik82 added, “Klay daddy just pull up on a Tuesday for a plate, talk sh** and go home. I love it!!!”
Not everyone agreed with the sentiment, though.
@MCBE95636285 pushed back, saying, “The bare minimum and yall talkin about wifey material.”
Between Thompson defending Curry on the court and lighthearted family moments off it, NBA fans continue to find plenty to debate — whether it’s basketball legacy or dinner-table jokes.
