Klay Thompson’s start to the 2025-26 season hasn’t exactly been pretty — and NBA fans think they know why.
After the Dallas Mavericks’ 102-110 loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, Thompson was visibly frustrated, caught on camera smacking a few water bottles on his way off the court. It was the kind of moment that showed just how rough things have been.

Of course, fans wasted no time turning it into comedy.
One fan joked, “She really sucked the life out him,” taking a jab at his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion.

Another quipped, “He even manages to miss the water bottle when he tries to hit it.”
A third added, “That’s fake frustration — he got some ass waiting at home, he not sad.”
The frustration made sense, though. Thompson only managed 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 18 minutes against Houston — far from what you’d expect from the four-time NBA champ.
“Time to retire”: NBA fans suggest that retirement season is around the corner for Klay Thompson
Since leaving Golden State, Thompson hasn’t quite found his rhythm. Now, with a rocky start to the season, fans are starting to wonder if it’s time for him to hang it up.

One fan said, “Yea get him tf out of here. This should be his last year. Time to retire.”

Another added, “How can you make 70 in a row and be this bad in games?”
A third wrote, “For someone who hasn’t been knocking down shots since last season, his shot selection is terrible. Half these looks are heat checks. Dude needs to check his ego and slow it down.”
Through seven games, Thompson’s putting up just 8.1 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in roughly 20 minutes of play. Those numbers are a far cry from his prime days when he was one-half of the Splash Brothers dynasty.
It’s early, sure — but the doubts are getting louder. Whether Klay can silence them or not might define how his next chapter unfolds.
