NBA fans had a wild night on social media after a report about the Miami Heat’s Nikola Jovic went viral — with many mistaking him for Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic.

@ShamsCharania broke the news:
“Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic has agreed to a four-year, $62.4 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, Jeff Schwartz, Sean Kennedy and Jared Mucha of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN. Jovic averaged a career-high 10.7 points last season as his Heat role elevates.”

But while the Heat were celebrating Jovic’s new deal, plenty of NBA fans got tripped up by the similar names. One user, @KindredSwerv, wrote:
“THE HEAT GOT JOKIC!??!?!”
while another, @ItsBucnPrinny, added:
“a lot of people are misreading this and think the Heat just got Jokic.”

The mix-up spread quickly, with posts joking that Pat Riley had somehow pulled off the heist of the decade. Of course, Jokic — the two-time MVP and Finals champion with Denver — isn’t going anywhere. The real headline was Jovic’s growth as a young player who became a key piece for Miami.
The online reaction shows how fast rumors can take off and how closely NBA fans follow every headline. For Jovic, it’s both funny and frustrating. He has worked his way into the Heat’s rotation and earned the extension on merit. His name, though, will always trigger quick double-takes from casual followers who see “Jovic” and think “Jokic.”
At the end of the day, this isn’t just about a name mix-up — it’s about NBA fans being so desperate for blockbuster moves that even a rookie extension can briefly shake Twitter into chaos.
NBA Fans React As Bam Adebayo Takes Center Stage For The Miami Heat
While confusion swirled around Nikola Jovic’s extension, NBA fans also turned their focus to Bam Adebayo, who remains the heart of the Miami Heat. The franchise’s official account posted:
“Bam’s ready to lead the way.”

Reactions quickly followed. @RickFox134916 criticized management, writing:
“Year 9 and Pat still hasn’t been able to build a consistent winner around @Bam1of1.”
Another fan, @basketball_208, praised his leadership with a simple message:
“Oh Captain my Captain.”
As the 2025 Miami Heat squad is taking shape, the talk of Bam’s role gets more and more serious for the NBA fans as it is really critical at this stage for his hard work to finally be rewarded, not just by the Heat, but by the NBA. The talks of building a team that would compliment and increase his ability is crucial. With Jimmy Butler aging and Tyler Herro inconsistent, pressure has shifted toward Adebayo to carry more weight.
The NBA fans are ready to hold him, and the team, accountable this 2025 season.
