NBA fans reacted to a recent odds report that positioned Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren as the current best pick for this season’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Over at social media platform X, NBA fans argued about the news that Chet Holmgren is currently the top favorite for this season’s Defensive Player of the Year award, with names under him including San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

Holmgren sat at 40% odds, while the next pick with Wembanyama sits at only 20% odds.
One fan, however, thought that the OKC star is also a favorite at something other than being DPOY.
“Also, the favorite to get carried by the refs,” the fan said.

Another fan echoed the same sentiment, saying that no OKC player should win any award for a similar reason.
“Nobody on OKC should win simply because they have a dif whistle and can play UFC style,” the fan said.
After an impressive beginning to the season, Holmgren has quickly risen to the top of the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year betting markets, as well as predictive models. He is currently listed at around +130 by bookmakers, and projection services are giving him a nearly 40% chance to win, ahead of other contenders like Victor Wembanyama and Evan Mobley, as the NBA has just completed its first quarter of the season.
Despite lineup disruptions for Oklahoma City, Holmgren’s rim protection, spacing ability, and on‑ball versatility have helped sustain the team’s defensive identity, leaving him well‑placed to claim the award if he and the Thunder maintain their form and health.
NBA Fans Weigh in on Chet Holmgren’s DPOY Odds
Over at X, NBA fans continued to share their insights on how Chet Lomgren rose to be the top favorite for this year’s DPOY award. For some fans, it’s only stars like Victor Wembanyama, who would end up not playing enough this season due to injury.

“It’s only because Wemby most likely will not reach the games needed to be eligible for season awards,” one fan said.

However, some fans still think that Holmgren being at the top of the DPOY picks makes perfect sense.
“He should be,” one fan said. “[He] anchors the #1 defense and the best shot blocker in the league other than Wemby. OKC has a chance to sweep every award this year, which has never been done.”
As the season progresses, NBA fans are looking forward to who will emerge to be the DPOY for the season.
