NBA fans recently reacted to a new interview in which Mark Cuban addressed a long-standing controversy surrounding the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks.
Over at social media platform X, NBA fans discussed the old controversy of Jalen Brunson’s move out of the Mavs ad to the Knicks, which former Mavs majority owner Mark Cuban described as “something behind me.”

“Maybe they should investigate them losing a game on purpose to keep a pick that was bound for us,” one fan said.
“They did, and they got a slap in the wrist, don’t forget what these men have in common,” a fan responded.

The New York Knicks’ 2022 free-agent signing of Jalen Brunson, who left the Dallas Mavericks for a four-year, max-level contract, has continued to stir debate after the NBA found the Knicks guilty of tampering and forfeited a second-round pick.
The move instantly elevated New York’s backcourt and altered the Knicks’ trajectory, but the league’s limited penalty and the involvement of Brunson’s father, assistant coach Rick Brunson, fueled questions about whether the team gained an unfair advantage in recruiting the player.
Critics and rival executives, including a still-publicly frustrated Mark Cuban, have argued that the league’s finding addressed only improper contact and did not fully reckon with whether New York skirted salary-cap rules or benefited from inside influence, a distinction between tampering and circumvention that has dominated subsequent coverage.
Supporters of the Knicks counter that the NBA investigated and punished the specific rule violation it found, and that speculation beyond the league’s ruling risks conflating emotional reactions with evidence-backed wrongdoing.
NBA Fans Go Deeper on Knicks, Mavs Controversy
NBA fans also went deep on the issues surrounding the New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks, in light of former Mavs majority owner Mark Cuban’s continued expression of frustration over losing Jalen Brunson to New York.

“A lot of people forget about that,” one fan said, responding to the comment talking about the Knicks purposely losing games. “How about the NBA gifting them a number one pick after trading Luka, similar to how the Pelicans traded AD and also ‘won’ a first round pick.”

Another fan threw shade at Cuban, who described him as “salty.”
“Cuban is salty we ‘overpaid’ and stole his guy, and thinks it’s cuz Rick Brunson was here that it was tampering,” they said. “That’s completely separate from a circumnavigation claim. Having Cuban on to discuss the circumnavigation claim is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.”

As the 2025 season closes in, NBA fans are looking forward to a fresh take on old rivalries and controversies.
