Kevin Durant, who is now with the Houston Rockets, kicked off his 2025 season on Opening Night by facing his former team, as the Thunder raised their championship banner. Durant stated that he has no hard feelings regarding the circumstances he sometimes faces in Oklahoma City while being very proud of what the franchise has turned into.
In particular, the former OKC star gave praise to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander while remarking that his time in OKC had contributed to his career and the ongoing identification of the city with the NBA.
“It used to bother me a lot, when I would come back, the reception,” Durant said. “I’ve gotten over it. I know what I meant to the city and the franchise and what the city meant to me at that point in my career. I’m happy I had that time there. It was a great place, the best place for me at that time.”
Teammates and former colleagues credit Durant with helping transform the Thunder into a destination for players and a community that grew around the team during his tenure.
