“But When Trump Supporters Protested, It Was Unamerican. Ok Stevie”: NBA Fans React On Steve Kerr’s Attending Anti-Donald Trump Protest ‘No Kings’ In San Francisco

A couple of days after he announced that he would be joining the ‘No Kings’ rally in San Francisco, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr came under fire once more from the NBA fans after he shared his experience during the rallies.

Before the Warriors faced the Los Angeles Lakers in their season opener, Kerr talked to reporters and was asked how the protest went over the weekend. The event took place at San Francisco’s Embarcadero, and as usual, Kerr didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts.

“Everyone I saw 100% loves their country,” said Kerr. “And as our country’s custom, you don’t agree with what the government’s doing then you peacefully protest.”

Warriors’ Steve Kerr attended the No Kings protest in San Francisco’s Embarcadero and talked about the experience:

His comments quickly blew up online, with NBA fans weighing in from every angle.

    One fan wrote,

“But when Trump supporters protested, it was un-American, ok Stevie.”

    Another added,

“Interesting… I don’t remember Kerr showing up (or being supportive) to the protest in the Bay Area regarding the severe Drug, Crime & Homeless problems?”

    A third chimed in,

“I disagree with the purpose of the protest but this is why America is the greatest country in the world and second place isn’t close.”

Kerr has long been an open critic of U.S. President Donald Trump. Across his 12 seasons with Golden State, he’s led the franchise to four NBA championships and visited the White House twice — once under Barack Obama after their 2015 win, and again with Joe Biden following the 2022 title. The Trump years, of course, were a different story.

“He should focus on the team and not politics”: NBA fans call out Steve Kerr

While Kerr’s political takes are nothing new, many fans say he’s better off sticking to basketball. Some accused him of letting off-court issues take up too much of his time.

    Another commented,

“Such an unlikable guy… I completely understand why MJ checked his chin.”

    A third fan wrote,

“Kerr always has something to say on every issue… Except when he was asked about the NBA involvement with China then all of a sudden he went silent.”

Still, Kerr’s stance doesn’t seem to divide his locker room. Even his superstar guard Steph Curry has been known to speak out against Trump and his policies from time to time.
