NBA fans are having a range of reactions to the league asking various Lakers personnel to hand over their phones and other documents for investigations into illegal gambling. According to recent reports, the Lakers are requesting that various employees cooperate with the investigation following the FBI’s allegations of illegal betting against Damon Jones a few weeks ago.
“As a result of the charges filed against Damon Jones, a former NBA player and LeBron James’ former shooting coach who had special access to the Lakers, Wachtell investigators are expected to seek documents, including cellphones and phone records, from at least 10 Lakers employees, league sources told The Athletic. Per league sources, Lakers assistant trainer Mike Mancias and executive administrator Randy Mims are among the employees who are already cooperating and who voluntarily handed their cellphones over to investigators.” The NY Times reported.

“Laykuhs Epsein files (crying emoji x2)” one fan remarked, comparing the investigation to the Epstein files case.
“Lmao you’ve allowed this as a company but now you wanna backtrack all of it I hope it blows up in the nbas face” another fan said.
“Somehow I think almost every team will end up involved in these investigations.” One more fan predicted.
NBA Fans Troll LeBron James After His Name Was Dropped In Lakers Report
Meanwhile, NBA fans also had a set of jokes about LeBron James being named in the report. While James is not being accused of gambling himself, the legend’s shooting coach, Damon Jones, was named in the allegations. Still, many feel that James is also equally as guilty.
“LeBron and Diddy sharing a cell soon” one fan mocked, referring to P. Diddy who was accused of several sex crimes earlier this year.

“my goat has never gambled stay humble fellas (crying emoji)” a fan shared a gif of Michael Jordan, who many consider to be LeBron James’ rival in the GOAT debate.
“I get to witness LeBron James downfall (smiling face emoji, up-down arrow emoji) Voodoo curse don’t miss (exhaling emoji, fire emoji x2)” one more fan trolled.
Of course, there were also many who felt that the report simply used LeBron James as clickbait and that the player himself was never actually accused of illegal gambling. As of now, several personnel in the Lakers organization have already handed over the phones and records to cooperate with the investigation.
