NBA fans recently reacted to new trade rumors that point to the Utah Jazz looking to acquire Pistons star Ausar Thompson in a potential blockbuster deal.

Over at one post on X, NBA fans reacted to the news of the Utah Jazz reportedly eyeing Ausar Thompson in exchange for one of their star players, Lauri Markkanen. However, fans think that such a deal may be unlikely to pull through.

Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson (9) controls the ball against New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) and center Karl-Anthony Towns (32) and guard Josh Hart (3) during the fourth quarter of game two of the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden.

“Who Danny Ainge thinks Lauri Markkanen is,” one fan said in their comment, attaching a photo of Larry Bird.

“Lauri is closer to Bird than Ausar is to Bird,” one fan added to the comment.

Multiple recent reports say the Utah Jazz would demand Detroit’s young wing Ausar Thompson as a centerpiece in any trade for Lauri Markkanen, but the Pistons are reportedly not inclined to move him amid a strong start to the season.

Insiders say Ausar Thompson is the specific young asset Utah would almost certainly seek in a deal with Detroit, according to reporting that relayed comments from NBA insider Jake Fischer.

The rumor surfaced as the Pistons sit near the top of the Eastern Conference standings, and league sources told reporters Detroit is not actively shopping Thompson despite Markkanen being floated as an “ideal” fit for the Pistons’ frontcourt needs.

Right now, Markkanen remains seemingly on the chopping block of the Utah Jazz, but he may come with too high a price for the Pistons may be reluctant to pay.

NBA Fans Weigh in on Possible Jazz-Pistons Trade

Over at X, fans discussed the possibility of a trade between the Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons. For some fans, the idea of the Pistons giving up Ausar Thompson makes the rumored deal sound unlikely.

“I don’t think Ausar would be traded, I think that the Jazz would have to settle for Ivey, Harris, Stewart, and 2-3 firsts realistically,” one fan said.

However, for others, the rumored trade could prove to be a win-win deal for both franchises.

“I think that Ausar Thompson is an absolute stud,” the fan said. “But I think that would be a good trade for both teams. Lauri Markkanen can really push Detroit over the top with his outside shooting [and] overall scoring to help Cade Cunningham, all while Ausar can become the #1 option and grow.”
