NBA fans are trolling Spike Lee after the filmmaker gifted Pope Leo XIV a Knicks jersey. Lee made headlines when he recently visited the Vatican with actress Cate Blanchett, and the two even got to meet the Pope in person.

However, the jokes soon flowed when a viral picture captured Lee giving the head of the Catholic Church a Knicks jersey with his name on it. The Pope himself did not look too excited as Lee did in the picture, perhaps because he himself hails from Chicago and is a Bulls fan.
“(BREAKING) Spike Lee has gifted Pope Leo a custom @nyknicks jersey because he knows ball.” Pope Crave tweeted.
“Pope is a Bulls fan.” one fan immediately responded.
“Ok we need to stop with the jerseys, especially if its not from Chicago.” another fan commented.
“Pope is never touching that after that picture. Lmao” yet another fan added.
The jokes of course didn’t stop there, with many fans continuing to troll the Pope having received jerseys from numerous other celebrities of different fan bases, especially since the religious leader has been so upfront about his love for his home state.

NBA Fans Scratch Heads As To Why Spike Lee Met Pope Leo XIV
On another note, NBA fans are also questioning as to why Spike Lee got to meet the Pope in the first place and even called out many other celebrities who meet this religious leader. Others trolled the Pope himself for being biased toward rich celebrities while lay people have to be satisfied with only waving to him from the ground when he is on the balcony.
“Why is Spike Lee there & being given a prominent photo op with the Pope? He’s not even Catholic. Long past time for Popes to put away this pop culture nonsense & get serious about fixing the Church, which has been on a disastrous path for the last 60 years.” One fan said.
“Why are they treating him like he’s something special I’m confused” another fan said.
“So all you gotta be is rich & famous to meet the pope? I feel some tables flipping over somewhere (thinking face emoji)” a fan echoed.
Pope Leo XIV has been pretty open about his love for all Chicago-based teams and even admitted sometime back that he is a die-hard White Sox fan. Chicago fans are, on the other hand, super happy to have a Pope who is endorsing their home teams.
