Steph Curry’s sneaker free agency is still very much a thing — and NBA fans noticed another wrinkle during Golden State’s matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Roughly three weeks after officially parting ways with Under Armour, Curry showed up wearing a different brand again. This time, it was A’Ja Wilson’s Nike signature shoe, which immediately sparked speculation about why the four-time NBA champion still hasn’t locked in a new deal of his own.
As expected, the reactions were all over the place.

@LALdesk went straight for the jokes: “He really washed no shoe company wants him lol.”

@America1437 asked what plenty were already thinking: “Why doesn’t he wear his own shoe?”
Others saw it differently. @panskyy22 viewed it as a nod across leagues: “steph curry wearing aja wilson signature shoe highlights growing respect and cultural crossover between nba stars and wnba influence.”
The footwear choice didn’t bring much luck, though. Golden State fell 136–131 to Portland despite a massive night from Curry himself.
“Despite the loss man”: NBA fans react to Steph Curry’s historic night vs. Portland
While fans debated Curry’s next sneaker move, he quietly added another entry to his record book.
Despite the loss, Curry passed Michael Jordan for the most 40-point games by a player aged 30 or older in NBA history — a milestone that somehow landed in the background because of Golden State’s ongoing struggles.

That contrast wasn’t lost online.
@highfade_30 summed up the mood: “It has come to a point that Steph is the ‘despite the loss’ man.”

@Narciisus_ acknowledged the effort but saw the bigger issue: “He tried, but it just wasn’t enough.”
@dkulshitsky zoomed out entirely: “Good illustration that basketball is a team sport.”
Curry finished the night with 48 points, three steals, and 12 made three-pointers — a stat line that would usually headline a win. Instead, it became another example of how thin the margin has been for the Warriors this season.
Between the sneaker mystery and nights like this, Curry keeps giving fans plenty to talk about — even when the results don’t go his way.
