NBA fans reacted to the not-so-subtle shade that San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama seemingly threw to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where fans believed he called the reigning champions “unethical.”
In a post-game interview following their win against the Thunder for the NBA Cup semifinals, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was asked for his opinion on how his team fared even without him on the court, as he was out of the game for 12 matches due to his calf injury. While he did not name any names in his answer, NBA fans took it to be a shade at the Thunder.

“I’m just glad to be a part of something that’s growing to be so beautiful,” Wemby said. “So pure and ethical basketball, you know.”

Over at X, fans reacted to his statement, with one fan sharing the sentiment and listing down the rally of “support” the Thunder have on their backs.
“OKC literally got themselves, the refs, and Adam Silver to be the most dangerous team in recent NBA history,” the fan said. “Whoever beats them in the playoffs will get the greatest ring in NBA history.”
Since the 2024-2025 season, fans and analysts have called out the Oklahoma City Thunder for constantly committing more fouls than usual, but getting called for fewer than usual. One fan, in fact, also pointed out how the league has yet to take notice of this “practice” by the team.
“It’s crazy how the league hasn’t done anything about OKC,” they said.
Right now, the OKC Thunder is looking to do a repeat championship, something that was last achieved by the Golden State Warriors during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
NBA Fans Share Reaction to Wemby’s OKC Shade
Over at X, NBA fans share their honest feelings towards Victor Wembanyama’s refnet post-game interview that many took to mean as a shade to the Oklahoma City Thunder. For one fan, he and the Spurs ending OKC’s win streak this season is a commendable feat.

“Wemby just ended OKC’s undefeated run with real basketball while they were out there auditioning for Hollywood,” the fan said. “Pure and ethical indeed. The rest of the league salutes you, Vic.”
However, one fan also threw shade at the Spurs, mentioning a franchise legend that “started” the style of play SGA does.
“While I do agree that SGA especially is a flopper, it’s maybe a tad ironic for a Spur to be calling it out when their guy Manu G was the one that brought this to the NBA,” the fan said.
Right now, NBA fans are looking forward to how Wembanyama and the Spurs would ultimately fare for the NBA Cup.
