After a dismal outing against the Houston Rockets, Klay Thompson has been demoted back to the bench and NBA fans are raising questions about him being washed as well as his relationship with rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Ahead of the Dallas Mavericks’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, head coach Jason Kidd announced that D’Angelo Russell would be moving into the starting lineup, replacing Thompson, who’s struggled to find his rhythm early in the season.

That decision set NBA Twitter ablaze, with fans instantly roasting Klay and throwing his relationship into the mix.
One fan joked, “will Megan the Stallion stay with Klay Thee Backup?”

Another added, “klay got more energy for when hes home, win win.”
A third chimed in, “They’re benching a washed player but putting a traffic cone to the starting line up.”
It’s been a frustrating stretch for the four-time NBA champ. Through seven games, Thompson is averaging just 8.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 31.8% from the field — far from the numbers fans are used to seeing from one of the game’s greatest shooters.
Now, with Russell taking his spot, Klay will have to prove he still belongs in the starting five and that his Dallas move wasn’t a step in the wrong direction.
“I thought he went there to prevent this”: NBA fans look back on Klay Thompson’s failed attempt to move away from the bench
When Thompson left Golden State after 13 seasons, the idea was simple — get a fresh start and stay in a starting role. But less than two weeks into the season, fans can’t help but notice that things are looking all too familiar.

One fan wrote, “I thought he went there to prevent this and boom, sh*t sandwich anyway.”

Another said, “Inevitable. It took him forever to come to that conclusion. He loved him some Klay.”
A third added, “He should’ve listened to his Dad. He told Klay not to go to Dallas. He didn’t listen.”
For Thompson, this demotion feels like déjà vu — and unless he finds his shot soon, he could be fighting an uphill battle just to stay relevant in a Mavericks rotation that’s already moving on without him.
