There’s a growing sense that Steve Kerr’s run with the Golden State Warriors could be nearing its end — and for many NBA fans, it doesn’t feel surprising.
According to a report from The Ringer’s Logan Murdock, Kerr has yet to sign a contract extension as the season continues.
“This is the final year of his contract, and as of Wednesday, he has yet to sign a new deal. Though Kerr has publicly been mum about his future, multiple assistant coaches have been operating under the premise that he will not return next season, according to team sources, with some surveying the league to secure jobs next season,” Murdock wrote.
That report quickly caught fire online.
Some fans welcomed the idea. @stephen00206875 said, “good! he’s gone too Woke!”

Others questioned Kerr’s legacy without elite rosters. @thyonlybossman joked, “Running away when he doesn’t have a super team to carry his legacy.”
Not everyone agreed. @JustBetonchain reacted more emotionally, saying, “End of an era if this is true.”
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but if this does turn out to be Kerr’s final season in Golden State, the timing hasn’t helped. The Warriors currently sit eighth in the Western Conference and are still searching for consistency as the season hits its midpoint.
“There’s a spotlight because you are refusing to play a freak athlete”: NBA fans lash out at Steve Kerr over Jonathan Kuminga’s limited minutes
While questions about Kerr’s future linger, frustration over his lineup decisions hasn’t cooled off.
During a recent appearance on Willard and Dibs, Kerr addressed Jonathan Kuminga’s situation and explained why the former seventh overall pick continues to see limited minutes.
“What’s made [the Jonathan Kuminga situation] unique is just the spotlight…He’s 1 of 15 guys on our team…For whatever reason, he’s been the focal point for the media, for the fans. I believe in looking at the team as a whole,” Kerr said.

That explanation didn’t sit well with fans.
@showmethewayrj fired back, “There’s a spotlight because you are refusing to play a freak athlete who can definitely help your team win.”
@Mistacoo added, “JK is the 2nd best player on the team now that Jimmy is out for the season. Kerr sounds like a guy who’s about to retire at the end of the season…He’s clearly burned out and needs to go.”
@HJWisp15 summed it up plainly: “Kerr had a good run…time for change.”

With contract uncertainty and criticism piling up, Kerr’s future with the Warriors remains unclear.
