NBA Fans this season have all eyes on the heated rivalry between star centers Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. However, some Fans know exactly where and when it began. And it began not in the big leagues, but when they were U19s playing for France and the USA, respectively.
At X/Twitter, user @Hoopss shared a photo showing Wembanyama alongside Holmgren. But then, the latter won gold and MVP when Team USA slipped past Team France, 83-81, leaving Wemby with only silver. NBA Fans knew that at this moment, the Alien had since hunted for unfinished business, and that is what caused their rivalry to be so fierce.
However, NBA Fans couldn’t help but take a jab at the Wemby-Chet rivalry. User @Jeremy3FL didn’t hold back and wrote, “Oh yes the famous matchup known as ‘the skeleton game’,” referring to the stars’ thin bodies. User @bad_hooptakes also joked, “Two stick bugs beefing.”

Meanwhile, @sassthesquatch threw shade at Wembanyama’s goals, commenting, “wemby focused on chet. chet focused on championships.”
“wembanyama seeking revenge is pretty clear,” one user remarked.
“Wemby ain’t holding back, straight fire coming for Chet!” one user wrote.

However, NBA Fans like @okcxnba believe that Holmgren can catch up to Wemby if he does one thing: “Tbh wembys just more physically gifted. Chet with a little bit more size will be one of the most dangerous players in the league.”
This season, Wemby shocked everyone with his now stronger physique and focus, which he gained from his stay in China then.
NBA Fans throw shade at Wembanyama for rivalry with Holmgren
On the other hand, many NBA Fans, especially those of the Oklahoma City Thunder, point to something Holmgren has that Wemby doesn’t: a championship. Last season, Chet, the Thunder’s star center, helped get the Thunder their first title since 1979, the era of the Seattle Supersonics.

And for some NBA Fans, this fact keeps Chet ahead of Wembanyama.
User @WILSONBATCAVE32 aimed barbs at the Spurs star, writing, “Good for him. But Chet has something that he doesn’t have. [laugh emojis].” Meanwhile, user @nahdo4_ brought up how Chet is leading in the league right now, commenting, “Now Chet is an nba champion and favored dpoy.”
This season, NBA Fans have seen this rivalry in action four times. And for the first three games: Wembanyama and the Spurs held the high ground. However, Holmgren’s Thunder made sure that they had their revenge as they demolished San Antonio on Wednesday. Fans will expect another Chet-Wemby showdown for the final time this season on February 5.
