NBA Fans witnessed a masterpiece of a rivalry this Sunday as Victor Wembanyama, SA Spurs star, secured the W over Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards. However, the real deal was after the game, when Edwards told the Fans that he’d face Wemby, one-on-one. No other players. Just them.

Wembanyama’s response? He’s clearly up for the challenge, boldlyresponding with, “Over the years, I will try to block him more than he dunks on me” postgame. NBA Fans quickly went into a frenzy as two of this generation’s greatest stars ignited a rivalry that will last for years.

“Over the years, I will try and block him more than he dunks on me.”

And, of course, this led NBA fans to wonder what could happen in this intriguing matchup. While many see high-stakes 1v1s, user @BronGotGame decided to go the other way, writing, “they will be teammates one day.”

Meanwhile, user @Bobby_FamSeni believes that there’s actually no grudge between Wemby and Edwards, commenting, “He really respects Ant. There’s respect in this rivalry.”

However, NBA Fans also don’t see both stars wearing the same jersey. After all, Edwards clearly is the face of the Minnesota Timberwolves. And that goes the same for Wembanyama, the future of the Spurs. Unless one gives up this title, an alliance between the two is impossible.

But user @YanksSpursGuy showed NBA Fans that the rising superstars can still play together on the court, writing, “Yea, in the all-star game maybe.”

But still? NBA Fans see Edwards and Wembanyama as every other rivalry? They might be fierce enemies when they’re out there. Edwards might dunk on Wemby, or Wemby might block Edwards’ shot. But off the court? The respect between the two stars is undeniable.

This season, NBA fans have seen the two stars face off multiple times, with Minnesota holding the edge in the series. However, the Spurs pulled off a narrow win behind Wembanyama’s standout performance, 126-123, overcoming Edwards’ big, 55-point night.

NBA Fans don’t buy Wembanyama’s response to Edwards

While many NBA Fans clearly approved of the new rivalry between Wembanyama and Edwards, some couldn’t help but throw shade at the former.

One user, @stonerspreads, didn’t hesitate and wrote, “lotta pride it’s all over his face,” proving that some NBA Fans have yet to show support for Wemby.

Meanwhile, user @Pearnivore believes that the Spurs’ big man’s rivalry shouldn’t be one-sided, commenting, “The ego, should benefit the team not just your pride.”

While Wembanyama wouldn’t face Edwards anymore this season, NBA Fans continue to hope that their rivalry would indeed shock the fanbase. And there’s still the Playoffs. If all aligns well, then a Spurs-Timberwolves matchup is far from impossible.
