With TNT failing to retain the rights to broadcast NBA-related content, there’s no stopping Amazon from taking over. For former head coach George Karl, though, the winning formula is to keep Inside the NBA as it is and not just let it end.
In a landmark move, the NBA has signed an 11-year media rights deal with Disney, NBC, and Amazon Prime Video, rejecting a $1.8 billion per year offer from Warner Bros. Discovery and its TNT network.

The new $76 billion deal, approved by the league’s board of governors, will see Amazon Prime Video carry games on Friday nights, select Saturday afternoons, and Thursday night doubleheaders. Prime Video will also take over the League Pass package from WBD.
Disney’s ABC and ESPN will retain the league’s top package, including the Finals, while NBC and Peacock will air up to 100 regular-season games each season. The agreement also includes the NBA Cup tournament and USA Basketball events.
The WNBA also announced its own 11-year media rights deals with Disney, Amazon, and NBC, valued at around $200 million per year. This comprehensive package ensures both leagueswill have widespread exposure across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms in the years to come.
Former Head Coach George Karl Says Amazon Should Continue Inside the NBA

With the deal good to go, Amazon is in a prime position to make the most out of the league. Karl, in a tweet he posted on his official X account, suggested that the company keep Inside the NBA to ensure they succeed in this endeavor.
“The winning situation is for Amazon to get the NBA package and then just hire the “Inside the NBA” Crew!!” Karl tweeted.
The show’s future has remained uncertain after Turner Sports lost the league’sbroadcast rights. Host Ernie Johnson is expected to remain with the network, but the future of analysts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith is unclear. Barkley has an opt-out clause and has hinted at leaving if Turner loses the rights.

It remains to be seen whether Amazon follows Karl’s suggestion or just let the show end. In any case, a lot of fans will be looking forward to Inside the NBA’s fate and hope that it would be retained well into the future.
