After seeing his playing time dwindle over the years, veteran point guard Kemba Walker has decided to make his retirement from the NBA official. In turn, thee former Charlotte Hornets star got real and revealed how he felt with that particular decision.
Before he entered the league, Walker played college basketball for the UConn Huskies, where he had a successful stint with the team. During the 2010-11 season, the point guard was the nation’s second-leading scorer and was named a consensus first-team All-American. He led the Huskies to the 2011 NCAA championship and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

After being drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2011 NBA draft, Walker spent the first eight seasons of his professional career with that team and became its best player over the years. He was a four-time NBA All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2019.
In that same year, Walker joined the Boston Celtics, where he spent two seasons before signing with the New York Knicks in 2021 and the Dallas Mavericks in 2022. In 2023, Walker signed with AS Monaco in the French LNB Élite league, where he won the league championship. He is currently working as a player enhancement coach for the Charlotte Hornets.

Just recently, Walker appeared in an episode of 7PM In Brooklyn and was interviewed by former NBA star Carmelo Anthony. In a video shared on X by the podcast’s official account, the former Hornets guard announced his decision to retire.
“I thank God for blessing me and my family with the opportunity to play basketball.”

In the 12 seasons Walker played in the league, the point guard averaged 19.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He also shot 41 percent from the field, 36 percent from deep, and 84 percent from the free throw line.

Although his playing days are over, Walker can still continue making an impact by working as the Hornets’ player enhancement coach. In a way, he won’t be far away from the game that made him famous and still make an impact, especially for the guys who are playing for Charlotte next season.
