Former champion and sports analyst Kendrick Perkins weighed in on the NBA’s Christmas Day games, emphasizing that the league’s viewership remained strong despite competition from the NFL. He highlighted that the excitement generated by the matchups demonstrated the league’s enduring appeal, even in the face of football’s dominance.

Perkins recently addressed the disparity in viewership between the NFL and NBA during Christmas Day games, emphasizing that the NFL did not diminish the basketball league’s appeal. While the NFL showcased two lackluster matchups, Perkins highlighted that they have experienced a significant boost in viewership, with its games attracting the most viewers in five years.

He asserted that this demonstrated basketball’s enduring popularity, despite the NFL’s dominance in American sports. In his response to NFL reporter Ari Meirov, Perkins pointed out that the NFL’s higher viewership numbers did not come at the expense of the basketball league

The sports analyst noted that the Christmas Day games provided exciting matchups featuring star players, which contributed to a successful day for basketball. Perkins acknowledged that while the NFL’s games had their moments, the league’s slate was filled with compelling narratives, including matchups between top teams and young talents.

The former champion shared his thoughts about how the league performed on Christmas Day against the NFL. His take can be seen in a tweet he posted on his official X account.

“The NBA definitely stood on the BIDNESS today!!!!” Perkins tweeted.

Critics had raised concerns about the basketball league’s declining ratings, arguing that early-season games often lacked intensity. However, Perkins argued that the introduction of the NBA Cup brought a playoff-like atmosphere to December, enhancing the excitement surrounding the games. This initiative helped to offset traditional rating declines, proving that fans were still engaged with the sport.

The Christmas Day matchups included thrilling contests that captivated audiences, particularly the highly anticipated game featuring LeBron James and Stephen Curry. With millions tuning in, the league showcased its ability to deliver entertaining basketball on a significant holiday.

Ultimately, Perkins’s stance reinforced the notion that both leagues could coexist, each thriving in their unique ways. The NBA solidified its position as a vital part of the sports landscape, demonstrating resilience in the face of competition.
