The Houston Rockets were reportedly among the NBA teams the Phoenix Suns reached out to prior to the 2025 NBA trade deadline about a possible deal involving future Basketball Hall of Famer Kevin Durant.
Of course, the deadline passed with Durant still on the Suns roster, so if he gets moved, it will not be until the coming offseason when a potential trade to the Rockets can perhaps be revisited.
Will the Houston Rockets entertain the idea of a Kevin Durant trade in the offseason?

However, it appears that the Rockets are more confident about the idea of things turning out right for them even without acquiring someone like Durant, who could potentially miss the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon on the Hoop Collective podcast (h/t Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report):
“I spent a week in Houston—I’m working on a story along those lines—I can tell you that from Ime Udoka on up to ownership, the hope is that that guy is on the roster,” the NBA insider said. “And there’s a really high bar as far as if they’re gonna package stuff this summer and go after somebody.”

The Rockets have a bright future just based on the incredible young talents on the team at the moment. Alperen Sengun is already one of the best big men in the league while Jalen Green is an exciting young talent who has yet to reach his ceiling.
The Rockets entered Tuesday with a 44-25 record, good for second in the Western Conference.
