There has been a lot of speculation about Ja Morant‘s future with the Memphis Grizzlies. Morant has dealt with the Grizzlies’ coaching staff, questioning their system early in the 2025-26 NBA season. This led the franchise to suspend him for one game. Following the events, multiple trade rumors emerged, speculating on where the star guard will continue his career.
One of the teams linked to Morant is the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the Wolves have veteran guard Mike Conley, he’s been assigned a bench role. Coach Chris Finch promoted Donte DiVincenzo as the team’s starting point guard. However, DiVincenzo isn’t a natural facilitator, and that’s what Minnesota’s lineup needs.
Experts have begun to suggest moves that may link the two-time All-Star with Anthony Edwards, given his tense history with the Grizzlies. On Monday’s episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins loved the idea of the backcourt pair of Morant and Edwards.

“I want to see him next to Ja Morant,” Cousins said. “One, just for the entertainment purposes. Get those two characters on the same team. The amount of athleticism both guy contains, it will be [a] must-watch TV. I think they well be a very tough duo to stop, especially getting downhill, attacking the rim.
Lou Williams agrees with Boogie Cousins — Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards would complement each other perfectly in Minnesota 👀🤝🔥

“I think their personalities and who they are, I think they mesh. I think that dog in both of them can bring even more dog out of both of them. I think they will compliment each other well. I think it’s a match made in heaven.”
Morant and Edwards could create a new dynamic in Minnesota. However, it all depends on their respective franchises if they’ll make their duo into a reality.
The Wolves could package Julius Randle in a Ja Morant trade

The star that the Timberwolves might part ways with in any deal is Julius Randle. After Karl-Anthony Towns was moved to the New York Knicks last season, Anthony Edwards became the team’s superstar.
With Randle, Minnesota could use his team-friendly contract of $100 million through three years. He’s also put up All-Star numbers, averaging 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists. According to Brett Siegel, the Wolves could use the 6-foot-8 big man as leverage in a potential trade to acquire Ja Morant.
“There is a growing sense that the Timberwolves will sell high on Julius Randle should the right star become available before February,” Siegel reported. “However, the problem with Minnesota is that they don’t have any first-round picks they can trade outright, which would be problematic with pursuing Morant or another star guard.”
Moving Randle to Memphis would make Naz Reid as the starting power forward for the Wolves.
