Brooklyn Nets power forward Dorian Finney-Smith may be going to the Lakers, in a potential trade deal that could help the Los Angeles team address their defensive problems.

In a live broadcast by Anthony F. Irwin of Clutch Points, the idea of Finney-Smith making his way to the Lakers was explored and discussed. According to the insider, the Lakers have been keeping an eye on the Brooklyn Nets forward since last season, and now have been “in constant contact” with the Brooklyn Nets for a potential deal.

Dorian Finney-Smith is known for his strong defensive capabilities. He had a defense rating of 119.9 for the 2023-2024 season. He is known to show off his great defense against elite players like Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, and Kevin Durant, limiting their offense with him on guard.

Finney-Smith is also known to take on versatile positions inside the court, from driving the ball to guarding opponents of all sizes.

Will Dorian Finney-Smith Help Solve Lakers’ Defense Woes?

Dorian Finney Smith is known for his excellent defensive skills, but can he be the answer to the Lakers’ defense woes? Despite the Los Angeles team doing fairly well so far this season, standing eighth in the Western Conference with 13-11 on record, people from inside the team have acknowledged that they have a lot to work on in terms of defense.

LeBron James pointed out the lack of communication as one major issue that plagues the team’s defense, stating that the team would “pay” for it if they are not able to fix the problem.

“I just think the level of communication is not as great as it needs to be.,” LeBron said. “There’s too many great teams out here and anytime you make a mistake, especially with us, teams are gonna make you pay.”

Star player Anthony Davis echoes LeBron’s comments, also citing communication issues as the root cause of the team’s defense problems.

“Communication is a big part of it,” Davis said. “Miscommunicating, covering for one another, trusting each other. Because we all try to do the right thing but with the lack of communication that goes on, we’re not mind readers so if we’re not talking, we can be thinking we’re going the right thing, but the other four guys or other guy that you’re in the action with might not know what’s going on.”

With how impressive Dorian Finney-Smith’s defense skills have been so far, he may prove to be a worthy addition to the Lakers roster.
