The New York Knicks may be an active name in the trade market, as recent trade rumors suggest that they may be putting center Mitchell Robinsons up for trade, with the intention of improving their roster. That will, however, depend on the recovery rate of Robinson and what he can contribute to the rest of the season.
In one of the recent editions of ESPN’s NBA Today, analyst and insider Shams Charania suggested that the Knicks may be keeping close tabs on Mitchell Robinson’s timeline of recovery, and may go to the trade market depending on how things would go for the center.
“From their starting lineup,” Charania said. “It’s one of the best starting lineups in the league, but you think about the bench. We’ve been talking about their bench depth all season. Mitchell Robinson is the name to keep an eye on. I’m told he’s unlikely to get cleared until at least late January, into February. That pushes his timeline a little bit.”
“They need to see exactly whether he comes back and he’s healthy and can play or do you look at the market?” he added. “Because they do, potentially, need another big man off the bench.”
Mitchell Robinson has yet to make any appearance at any Knicks game this season, as he is still out due to a left foot injury he sustained during the summer that he had to have surgery. Recovery did not go as quickly as expected for him, and thus the timeline of him getting back to court early next year.

The New York Knicks bid goodbye to their dreams for the NBA Cup as they got knocked out by the Atlanta Hawks during the quarter-finals stage.
During a post-game interview, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau made a subtle jab towards the game officiating that referenced a terrible experience their team had last season.
“I just looked at who was refereeing and I knew what it was going to be like,” Thibodeau said.
One of the referees in the Knicks-Hawks game was Jacyn Goble. Last season, in a game between the Knicks and the Houston Rockets, Goble called a foul on Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, which allowed the Rockets to break the tie back then, as Rockets’ Aaron Holiday was given three free throws.
The free throws spelled defeat for the New York Knicks. Fans have called out the referee for the call, but the officiating was not overturned.
