New Orleans Pelicans Fans In Shock After Hearing Brutal Dejounte Murray News

The New Orleans Pelicans got off to a good start to their 2024-25 NBA season, as they dismantled the Chicago Bulls at home Wednesday night, 123-111. However, the Pelicans got some concerning news following the game, with Dejounte Murray reportedly suffering an upper-body injury, which could put his participation at leats in the coming New Orleans games in jeopardy.

    Via Shams Charania of ESPN:

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray is feared to have a fractured left hand, sources tell ESPN. Difficult opening night injury for Pelicans and Murray, who posted 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in season-opening victory over Chicago.

This is a troubling development for the Pelicans, who just acquired Murray via a trade with the Atlanta Hawks last July. New Orleans needed a point guard to stabilize its backcourt and felt they addressed that issue with the acquisition of the 28-year-old Murray, who entered the league in 2016 as a first-round pick by the San Antonio Spurs. In his regular-season debut for the Pels, Murray scored 14 points and dished out 10 assists while grabbing eight rebounds in nearly 30 minutes of action on the floor.

“Tough to hear the news about Dejounte possibly breaking his hand. Obviously losing him for any amount of time would be a tremendous setback for a team essentially missing two starters already.”
