There’s a power vacuum in the Eastern Conference following the Achilles injuries to Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton, and Kendrick Perkins feels that the New York Knicks can fill it.

Speaking on NBA Today, the one-time NBA champion emphasized the importance of maintaining a team’s core, which the New York Knicks have done this offseason while adding more reinforcements.
“They are, to me, they’re the best team in the Eastern Conference… I trust big body Brunson as the leader of that ball club, and they address the issues that they needed to address. You go and you get some bench players that’s going to come in and play their role while still keeping your entire core together,” Perkins explained.

“We know OG Anunoby, we know what he’s going to bring to the table for us, being that three-and-D guy, at times he looked like Scottie Pippen. Josh Hart, he’s going to come back on a mission. Obviously, they just resigned Mikal Bridges. And I’m looking forward to seeing what Karl-Anthony Towns looks like under a new voice of their locker room in Mike Brown,” he reiterated.
New York Knicks further reinforce their bench by signing former Sixth Man of the Year
The New York Knicks recently signed Malcolm Brogdon to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Before this, the team also brought back Landry Shamet to help round out their roster.

Before joining the New York Knicks, Brogdon played for the Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Boston Celtics over the past three seasons. The 32-year-old guard is one of two players in NBA history to win Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year, alongside Mike Miller.
In 2024-25, Brogdon averaged 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists on 43.3 percent shooting from the field across 24 regular season appearances.
