New York Knicks: NBA Record Set in 1965 in Danger of Falling Amid Jalen Brunson’s Hot Streak

Jalen Brunson is on a tear. The New York Knicks star point guard is feeling unstoppable at the moment because, well, no one has slowed him down of late. In the Knicks’ Game 1 121-117 win at home over the Indiana Pacers, the former Villanova Wildcats star blew up for 43 points on 14/26 shooting from the field. He also sank all of his 14 attempts from the floor.

Brunson is making 40-point performances in the playoffs look normal, to the point that he is just three such games in a row away from tying a postseason record. His explosion in the Pacers game was his fourth-consecutive 40-point eruption, which means he just needs to score at least 40 points in each of his next two games in the playoffs to tie a record set in the mid-60s by no other than Los Angeles Lakers legend and The Logo himself, Jerry West.

    Via NBA.com:

“Lakers Hall of Famer Jerry West holds the record with six consecutive games of 40 or more points, set during the 1965 postseason. Bernard King had four straight for the Knicks in 1984 and Jordan did it en route to his third straight championship.”

Over his last four games, dating back to the first round of the playoffs, Brunson has averaged 42.8 points on 50.4 percent shooting from the floor and 32.3 percent from deep.

All eyes will be on Brunson again in Game 2 of the Pacers series this Wednesday night.
