The entire league was shook some time ago when the Minnesota Timberwolves decided to trade Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks. Just recently, though, the All-Star big man opened up and revealed how that deal went down for him.

A few weeks ago, the Knicks have acquired Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a significant three-team trade that also involved the Charlotte Hornets. This deal, finalized after days of negotiations under the NBA’s new trade rules, sees Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo moving to Minnesota, while the Hornets receive multiple players and future draft picks.

Towns, who has been a standout since being drafted first overall in 2015, averaged 22.9 points and 10.8 rebounds last season, showcasing his ability as both a scorer and a playmaker. His exceptional shooting, particularly from three-point range, adds a valuable dimension to the Knicks’ offense, which aims to contend for a championship this season.

Knicks President Leon Rose emphasized Towns’ unique blend of skills, noting his potential to enhance the team’s competitive edge. Towns expressed gratitude towards the Timberwolves and their fans, reflecting on his nine-year journey in Minnesota, where he formed strong relationships and contributed to the team’s recent playoff success.

The Timberwolves, in turn, received Randle, a three-time All-Star, and DiVincenzo, adding depth to their roster. Coach Chris Finch highlighted the strategic nature of the trade, focusing on gaining flexibility and enhancing the team’s overall competitiveness.

As Towns joins forces with Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges, the team looks to build on its recent playoff appearances. This trade marks a pivotal moment for both franchises, setting the stage for an exciting 2024-25 NBA season.

With Towns now in the Big Apple, the Knicks have a serious chance to win it all this season. For his part, the big man opened up how that trade happened for him, as seen in an article by Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbaugh.

The big man, who spent the first nine seasons of his NBA career in Minnesota, said Timberwolves president Tim Connelly came alone to his house to inform him in person that he had been traded.

Three friends and Towns’ father were there with him when Connelly shared the news, the newest Knicks star told Hart and Brunson.

“Honestly, it’s a tough situation regardless of what would’ve happened, but the fact that happened that way, I’ve got to give him respect,” Towns said.

Connelly told reporters at the introductory press conference for Randle, DiVincenzo and Keita Bates-Diop earlier this month that he had found it difficult to complete the trade for Towns.

Towns revealed that he learned about his trade to the New York Knicks just four minutes before NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news on social media. In a recent podcast, Towns shared that Timberwolves president Tim Connelly came to inform him in person, an experience he found both surprising and respectful.

After nine seasons with Minnesota, where he became a four-time All-Star, Towns is set to debut with the Knicks soon. As he transitions to this new chapter, his impact on the team will be closely watched.
