Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren expressed dismay over his own defense a few days ago, mainly concerning his ability to block shots. He finally got the numbers on that department in win over the Dallas Mavericks, which is one of, if not the tallest line up in the league.

“I didn’t feel like myself. I felt like I wasn’t a shot blocker anymore. I’m glad I got a couple tonight,” he told reporters after the game.
Holmgren is probably comparing himself from last season when took over the league instantly with his great defensive ability. Before the four blocked shots against the Mavs, he only recorded one in the first three games.
Offense and rebounds are there for him and he is doing it consistently. He currently averages 23 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
While his efforts are not as flashy or noticeable, his head coach Mark Daigneault is seeing all his improvement.

Chet Holmgren eyes further improvement
Holmgren already missed one year in his pro career after sitting out his rookie season (2022-2023) due to injuries. He is playing like the rent is due since getting healthy, even making it to the All Rookie Team in 2024.
He chases improvement, not just personal but also his dynamics with the team. He is not yet done.
One thing he is working on right now is consistency.

“I gotta be consistent. Not only with making shots but with being aggressive and making the right plays,” he said.
“I gotta do a better job of not letting that sway game to game. I’m going to keep working on that.”
