Russell Westbrook remains without an NBA team with under two weeks to go before the opening of the 2025-26 season. Houston Rockets just so happen to have a great need for a point guard following the season-ending injury to their main point guard Fred VanVleet.

The Rockets also happens to have Brodie’s former teammate Kevin Durant, making his return to H-Town more interesting, This will send OKC fans into nostalgia.
What if it happens? Is KD ope to it? The two-time champion thinks it will be dope to have his former teammate play beside him again.
“Russ is a legend,” Durant said in the Up and Adams show when asked about Westbrook who last played for the Denver Nuggets.
“I think he deserves to be in the NBA right now. I think he deserves to walk out of the NBA on his own terms. Yeah, (a reunion) would be dope. But it’s not my decision. Leaving that up to whoever makes those decisions for now.”
The duo played together in Thunder for eight seasons together and turned the young franchise around into a contender in those years. They reached the NBA Finals in 2012 but lost to the Lebron James-led Miami Heat.

They separated in 2016 after Durant’s controversial move to the Golden State Warriors which beat them in the Western Conference Finals in June of that year.

Russell Westbrook getting signed by Houston Rockets
Rumors of Westbrook going to the Rockets instantly popped up after VanVleet’s injury. However, there’s no concrete report that it is definitely happening.
Even KD himself has no idea.
“I have no clue. I haven’t asked anybody about that,” Durant shared.
“I don’t know. It hasn’t been brought to my desk at all. Usually when stuff like that happens, it’s pretty loud. But I haven’t really heard it outside of like, fans on the internet.”

Right now, it looks like head coach Ime Udoka will stick to the squad he already has in the training camp. He previously said that the PG role will be a ‘committee’ and it will be fulfilled by multiple players, primarily Amen Thompson. Reed Sheppard and Aaron Holiday can come as back ups.
