The Oklahoma City Thunder sent a message after their Game 2 masterpiece win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren also had a message he wanted to shout out to the world.

The Thunder cooked the Pelicans in a 124-92 affair at Paycom Center to take a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference first-round series. OKC dominated from start to finish, led by Holmgren and MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Thunder, widely known for having the most fun during postgame interviews, gave another amusing one after willing the Game 2 win.

Several of the team’s players were gathered around as TNT courtside reporter Allie LaForce battled the blaring sounds inside Paycom Center to conduct the interview.

After a few boilerplate responses from both Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren, the Gonzaga alum grabbed the mic from LaForce to send a message while he had the NBA world’s attention: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deserves to be the NBA MVP.

“I’ve got one more thing to say. He’s too humble to say it. But this is the MVP right here. MVP of the league. I’m gonna say it for him because he won’t say it. That’s all I got,” said Holmgren.

Holmgren could’ve done an actual mic drop for dramatic effect there. But the two Thunder stars let their play do the talking

Gilgeous-Alexander certainly played like an MVP against the Pelicans in Game 2. He finished with 33 points on a stellar 13/19 shooting clip. SGA also grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out 5 assists, and recorded two steals.

The Thunder stud also hit several ridiculous shots — including one falling away from behind the backboard.

Holmgren was no slouch either. The Gonzaga alum scored 26 points, including 13 in the first quarter alone. Chet also swatted away two shots and deterred several more at the rim.

SGA’s running mate Jalen Williams also had a strong performance with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists on 10/17 shooting.

Gilgeous-Alexander may be the MVP on the Thunder — and, according to Holmgren, the entire league — but the team as a whole played like a top seed in Wednesday’s Game 2 win.
