There’s no question Team Canada is poised to shake things up in the 2024 Olympics, especially with MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge. The thing is, the Oklahoma City Thunder star might not be at 100 percent when the tournament starts in Paris soon.
Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2018 NBA Draft before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. In his rookie season, Gilgeous-Alexander was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

After being traded to the Thunder in 2019, Gilgeous-Alexander emerged as their leading scorer and helped the team make the playoffs. Over the next two seasons, he dealt with injuries but had a breakout campaign in 2022-23, earning his first NBA All-Star selection and being named to the All-NBA First Team. He finished fourth in the league in scoring with 31.4 points per game.
Internationally, Gilgeous-Alexander represented Canada at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, winning a bronze medal and being named to the All-Tournament Team. He was also awarded the Northern Star Award in 2023 as the Canadian athlete of the year, becoming only the second basketball player to receive the honor.

After finishing an MVP-worthy campaign last season, SGA is now preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of Team Canada. The thing is, the OKC star may not be 100 percent at all. Fortunately, the point guard clarified things up, as seen in a tweet shared by Aaron Rose on X.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has his hand wrapped up but says he’s fine. “Just bumps and bruises,” Rose tweeted.
Just last season, the Thunder point guard averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He also led OKC to first place finish in the Western Conference with a record of 57 wins and 25 losses.

It remains to be seen whether Gilgeous-Alexander can show up in full health for team Canada or not. What’s certain is that the impact he brings to the game is more than any other player in the roster, such as Denver Nuggets’ Jamal Murray and Houston Rockets’ Dillon Brooks, making their squad a formidable foe in the Olympics.
