UConn Huskies star player and apparent WNBA first pick Paige BueckersPaige Bueckers Recalls Being Chased By A Pig On Thanksgiving has been a consistent driving force inside the court, but the Huskies’ recent face-off with Holy Cross saw her struggle during the early parts of the game. One analyst has a theory about the cause of this, and it throws shade on the coaching of Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma.

In one of the episodes of the “Courtside Club” podcast, sports analyst Rachel DeMita pointed to UConn head coach Geno Auriemma as the reason why Paige has been declining in performance, accusing him of throwing the star player “under the bus.”

“Many fans have started noticing how Geno makes comments to the media about his players that rub people the wrong way,” DeMita said in the video. “It’s started to make me think if Geno’s coaching style is affecting Paige Bueckers’ trajectory and maybe halted her a little bit in becoming the best player she could possibly become.”

“He kind of threw her under the bus,” she said.

DeMita also likened the phase Bueckers is seemingly in right now to what happened to Hailey Van Lith who made her move from LSU to TCU and somehow found a better rhythm and more success in her games.

“We look at a case like Hailey Van Lith,” DeMita went on. “She is leading her team, putting up big numbers. It seems like she’s finally able to play freely, without the constraints of a rigid system.”

Currently, Paige Bueckers is averaging 18.9 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

Is Paige Bueckers Going to The Wings or The Valkyries?

With Paige Bueckers being the apparent first pick for the WNBA draft, most people assumed that the Dallas Wings, after winning the draft lottery, would surely have the UConn star on their team. However, a lot of fans are also rooting for Paige to play for the new extension team, the Golden State Valkyries.

While that is unlikely as of now, there is still a possibility that Paige might end up with the Valkyries rather than going to Dallas.

As Bueckers has been rumored to be considering rejecting a Dallas draft, there is a possibility for her to go on another college season instead, and proceed to the WNBA a year later than expected instead.

Paige Bueckers is one of the college athletes who were affected by the COVID season delays and has been out for an entire season due to an injury. With that, she still has a choice to pursue another year in college.
