Paige Bueckers, UConn Huskies women’s basketball team superstar and prodigy, plays the current college basketball season as her fifth and final season. Following this, most people expect her to be one of the first to be drafted for the WNBA. When she first got to be a part of the Huskies, the apparent WNBA favorite recalled how UConn was her “dream school.”
Appearing in an interview back in 2020, Paige Bueckers recalled when she came to UConn, following a stellar high school basketball time with Hopkins High School. She finished her high school athlete years with a national high school player of the year award, among other recognitions. She then went to the University of Connecticut and naturally became one of the women Huskies.
She has led the Huskies to the Final Four of the NCAA, and has amassed multiple awards and recognitions for herself, including a major national women’s college player of the year award during his freshie year, something that was not done before in the NCAA.

Paige Bueckers recalled how the opportunity to join UConn and be part of their women’s basketball team was something she could not let pass.
“I couldn’t pass it up. It was my dream school,” Bueckers said. “It gets a little stressful at times but it’s really a blessing. I mean, kids would love to be in my shoes to pick any college you wanna go to but UConn was always my dream school.”
“And when they first started recruiting me I was like, ‘no way. This can’t be real.’ Then I started building relationships and I built relationships with other schools but UConn just separated themselves” she added.

Paige Bueckers as a “Double-Edged Sword”
UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma described the basketball superstar as a “double-edged sword.” While he praised her undeniable talent for basketball, the coach also highlighted how this impressive and jaw-dropping wonder can sometimes make even her own teammates down to becoming mere spectators.
“Whenever you have a player that can do those things, it’s a double-edged sword,” Auriemma said. “I think there were times early in November last year, we watched Paige play a lot, instead of alongside her. So this year, I see it where we’re trying really hard to play together, and not just watch Paige be great.”
Auriemma added that he would not want a repeat of last year, where the huskies made it to the Final Four but ultimately failed to get the Championship, with Paige Bueckers playing as best as she could, and “we came up short, ’cause we didn’t have enough from other people.”
