Paul George could have done “something special” with Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson over at the Detroit Pistons, as the Sixers center talked about a “what if” scenario that could have happened back then and almost brought him to Detroit.
In one of the recent episodes of his show “Podcast P with Paul George,” the Philadelphia 76ers big man recalled a time when he almost went to Detroit to join his friends Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson.

“Didn’t I DM you one year to come to Detroit?” Drummond asked George on the podcast. “I was like, man, this man ain’t coming to no damn Detroit.
“You did,” George responded. “You and Reg [Jackson]. I actually was thinking about it just because, obviously, Reg reached out and you reached out and I’m like, ‘That might be a solid three stars right there.”
“Man, we could have [done] something special,” Drummond added.

Paul George went on to explain what made him not too enthusiastic about the idea back then. It was not about the team, nor working with anyone from the Detroit Pistons but rather, the weather.
“The only thing, I lived in Indiana,” Paul George added. “I’m tryna get out of this cold. I’m not tryna leave cold to go cold again.”
How a Paul George and Andre Drummond Detroit Team-Up Would Have Worked
Andre Drummond was drafted by the Detroit Pistons back in 2012 and played for the team until 2020. During his time with the Pistons, Drummond was a two-time All-Star (2016, 2018) and led the NBA in rebounding four times. While he left a significant impact on the court during his time, the Pistons failed to create consistent success in the playoffs during his time with the team.

While their dream duo did not happen while Durmmond was with the Pistons, the two still managed to be together in one team. The reunion of Andre Drummond and Paul George with the Philadelphia 76ers was a significant event in the 2024 NBA offseason. George was already signed for the team back then, while Drummond joined later for a two-year contract.

George was acquired with the intention of boosting the Sixers’ roster for better chances at the playoffs, while Drummond was mainly signed to boost the team’s frontcourt power behind their star player Joel Embiid.
Had they ended up teaming up under the Pistons banner, Paul George could have had Andre Drummond’s skills and dominance from inside the paint bolster his scoring skills, both from close to the basket to a long range.
