Results are not there yet for the New Orleans Pelicans and getting there might still take time. What their fans can take solace on is their rookies proving they either picked them or traded for. First it was Derik Queen and now, Jeremiah Fears is announcing his name.

Fears, the 7th overall pick of 2025, scored 21 points in back to back games. He event went toe-to-toe with Luka Doncic.
Pelicans lost both – one each against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The latter went to overtime.
The 19-year-old’s performance in the last two games made him the youngest guard in NBA history to record back to back 20 plus points.

It was not just the last two games when he has been effective. He has scored in double digits in all of the games he’s played this season except for one. His recent play prompted NBA.com’s Steve Aschburner to put him third in the latest Kia Rookie Ladder, behind no.1 Kon Knueppel of Charlotte Hornets and no. 2 Cooper Flagg of Dallas Mavericks.
Jeremiah Fears would rather have team success
Pelicans’ future could be secured if they make sure to develop their rookies. Both Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III are also only 25 years old.
Fears is not about the future though. He wants things to get better now for his team. This is why he is not that interested about his current rookie listing.

“As of right now, no it dont,” he told a reporter during practice when asked if him landing the the third spot matters.
“We still gotta win games. We gotta continue to go out there and compete. At the end of the day you still gotta win. That trumps everything. Continuing to stay focused on the main goal and that’s turning this team around.”
