The 2024-25 season was something to forget for the Philadelphia 76ers after a summer filled with hope with the formation of their Big 3 composed of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. Biggest story behind their miserable is the injury to Embiid.

They might have a different story this time as the 2023 MVP takes on the challenge of getting healthier. It is no longer just his knee that has been bothering him since he entered the league but his whole body.

NBA insider Evan Sidery of Forbes reveals Embiid slimmed down and hopes to play more games than the last feeling that the Sixers can swoop in and rule the Eastern Conference.

“Joel Embiid has slimmed down significantly this offseason, transforming his own look ahead of this season,” Sidery wrote on X.

“The Sixers’ star is hoping to finally play a significant amount of games to make them a serious threat in the wide-open Eastern Conference.”

Embiid played just 19 games last season and 39 in the one before that. Sixers failed to reach the playoffs in 2024-25 after being in the postseason in the last seven seasons.

Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid are back in the lab

A leaner Embiid was first teased by the 76ers on their social media page as players are back in the training camp.

Head coach Nick Nurse teased last month that Embiid is recovering well.

“I’m not sure, again, all the news is positive,” explained Nurse.

“I know he’s working very, very hard, and I think things look good. Whether he’s ready for training camp or not, I think there’s a lot more decisions to make before we get there.”

Players who attended the training include Paul George who played just 41 games and unable to see the finish line last season and Tyrese Maxey who suited up for just 52 games.

Other players posted by the 76ers social media team are rookie VJ Edgecomb, sophomore Jared McCain, and veterans Kelly Oubre and Andre Drummond who are both in the trading block according to latest rumors.
