Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain was the lone bright spot in the team’s disastrous 2024-25 season but then he had to be shut down early after suffering a meniscus tear around one month since the start of the season.

Sixers were dealing with never- ending injuries to their key players. Tyrese Maxey was in and out of the line-up while pricey acquisition Paul George never found his footing because of his injury issues while still with the Los Angeles Clippers. Their 2023 MVP Joel Embiid did not start the season with his knee injury hounding him, playing only a total of 19 games.
The Big 3 was never realized but they got a rookie in McCain who made fans believe in the future. The 16th overall pick was named Rookie of the Month in November, the first from the team since Ben Simmons in March 2018.

They just could not catch a break as McCain joined the Big 3 in the injury bay, eventually getting shut down for the whole season early in January.
Sixers missed the playoffs after placing 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 24-58 record.
Philadelphia 76ers return for McCain is still not clear
McCain has been deep in his rehab since then and he is planning for a strong comeback although he also remains patient.
“I think right now, it’s just kind of taking it day by day,” he said.
“I’m getting on-court, doing a lot of stuff, a lot of live stuff, but I still have to talk to them about exactly if I’m free for everything, but I’m definitely getting there.”

He added that he plans to join the team in training camp although he hasn’t talked to the team as he is still waiting for medical clearance.
“Yeah, my plan, for sure, is to participate,” McCain said. “I mean, anything can happen, but for right now, I’m on pace, and I’m doing great for that.”
